Corey was gorgeous. Perfect. Untameable. Five weeks, five engagements. All broken. He had commuted between them seamlessly. Gum in hair. Sand down pants. Seamless.
First recess, he didn’t notice her. Only hung his coat at his cubby and sat for circle.
At lunch it rained.
Afternoon recess. Bethany’s last chance. She brought out her mother’s cosmetics, stolen that morning.
Beautified, Bethany strut past the sandbox. Heads turned. She was gorgeous. Perfect.
Corey dashed to Bethany, but the teacher rushed her inside.
After school, Corey proposed. They toasted their engagement with grape juice and Pop Rocks.
The in-laws were a headache.
